Amman Kavadi Dance – The Soul of Tamil Folk Tradition
The Amman Festival is not only a festival in the colorful villages of Tamil Nadu, it is a feeling that binds the whole community in the villages. The strong Kavadi Dance Group comes out on the streets wearing colorful costumes carrying Kavadis adorned with flowers and peacock feathers.
When the Pambai and Thappattai drums are howling, the entire crowd is charged with the divine energy. The beat, the melody and the worship set the air on fire! Every action of the Kavadi dancers is an expression of faith, power, and cultural pride.

The film is an excellent recording of folk music (Naattupura Isai) sound and the dance of men who bear Kavadi on their shoulders. Everyone is filled with pure happiness and spirituality; a genuine manifestation of Tamil rural devotion.
Pambai and Thappattai the beats, which are filling the sky with divine beats, and the dancers spin, jump and bow in front of the goddess (Amman). This is the way we keep our Tamil heritage alive by using art, music, and faith.
